City Regeneration: Elevating project management for fuss-free wayfinding in Elephant & Castle
The Elephant and Castle regeneration initiative, led by Lendlease over the past decade, set out to breathe new life into the area by building 10 modern residential tower blocks, replacing 4,000 flats in the process.
After landing the signage tender for the first tower block, MJ Signs left an unforgettable mark on Lendlease, earning their place as the go-to partner for the next 9 towers.

This extensive project involved creating and installing a diverse range of signs, spanning health and safety, branding, directional, and car parking signs for each of the 10 phases. Each phase consisted of between three and four blocks varying from between 10 and 25 levels per tower block.
Amidst multiple stakeholders, intricate timelines, and budget constraints, the primary challenge was harmonising the designer’s and architect's vision with more practical considerations—addressing everything from precise sign placement and construction to budgeting. Ultimately, the team had to perfectly balance aesthetic appeal and functionality while ensuring everything was delivered on time and within budget.
MJ Signs’ project management team created a practical strategy centred on a strong and open collaboration with Lendlease's commercial and design teams, the project’s architects, and other team members from MJ Signs. Recognising the project's time sensitivity and the need for an alignment of expectations, MJ Signs crafted a comprehensive and flexible program of works, reverse-engineering from the installation deadline.
Adapting to evolving designs and technical challenges, MJ Signs transparently navigated cost adjustments and pragmatic design considerations, keeping the rest of the project team in the loop.
