CHISWICK PARK

Reimagining signs: A collaborative, sustainable approach to car park wayfinding in a West London business park

THE BRIEF

THE BRIEF

Chiswick Park, home to some of the world’s leading companies, found itself with a wayfinding conundrum after introducing an automated number plate system across their car parks. The new system left them needing to introduce bay numbers to 300 plus car park spaces and offer fuss-free navigation of the new layout around 12 buildings.

An ongoing 15-year collaboration with MJ Signs meant bringing in the team to seamlessly integrate car park bay navigation into the existing infrastructure was a no-brainer. The challenge being to provide clear wayfinding in line with the business park's aesthetic without overwhelming signage.

THE SOLUTION

THE SOLUTION

In a parallel spirit of creativity and functionality, MJ Signs’ solution involved repurposing the existing totem signs, substantial structures already in place but outdated and underused. Through a creative redesign and the application of block-out vinyl, and incorporating car, lorry, and electric vehicle charging point symbols, the team could refresh the totems without needing additional structures or excavation, offering a highly cost-effective, sustainable solution.

Collaborating closely with the facilities team at Chiswick Park, liaising with other involved contractors, and involving the MJ Signs’ installation and design teams in the planning ensured a comprehensive approach. The project's complexity meant multiple visits to assess the site, thorough walk rounds to define a new wayfinding strategy and meticulous planning from the collaborative team. This joint effort, engaging everyone from project managers to installation experts, was pivotal in the project's success.

Sustainable, cost-effective solution, maximising the potential of existing structures

The efficiency in guiding visitors to their designated bays, in light of the new system, was clear, judging by the positive feedback from Chiswick Park employees and visitors. The resourceful, expert decision to repurpose existing totems contributed to a lower environmental impact, aligning with sustainability goals and making the entire project more cost-effective for a valued client.

The Chiswick Park car park signage overhaul not only addressed the immediate need for effective wayfinding but also showcased a sustainable, cost-effective solution, maximising the potential of existing structures. This demonstrated MJ Signs’ commitment to aesthetic harmony, environmental responsibility, and our customer-first approach.
